Biography of this year’s Artist in Residence, Whitney Erickson

I’ve always enjoyed working with children, especially when art projects are involved. Children tend to be fearless about doing their own thing and taking risks and I find that very inspiring. It is always so interesting to see how different the finished projects are, even when the kids were all given the same instructions. There is nothing better than seeing how proud a child is of their finished masterpiece.
I have been working in visual arts for seven years, working with a variety of mediums including acrylic paint, sculpey/polymer clay, pottery clay, watercolour paint, frisket, varnish, liquid vitreous, and glitter. I am an art teacher and have experience running workshops and classes for children as young as two years old. Prior to working in an art studio I completed my diploma in Early Childhood Education and obtained my Child Development Supervisor certification.
